In the Beginning was the Light

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own,[b] and his own people[c] did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:9-13
We are drawn to the light. When all the beauty of the world fades away, and we can no longer see with our own eyes, the only thing we will be attracted to is the light. We might not have known what it was we were looking for, or whom we should follow. But when we come to know Jesus, we know that in Him is the light. His words speak truth, His actions provide grace, His purpose is holy and selfless. We did not know that we were looking for Him the whole time.
As I begin this year I want to strip away everything that holds beauty to me. The family that I have, the friends I enjoy, and the work that I have pride for. These are all things of me, and I want them to be of God. Let everything else fade away until the only one who stands in front of me is God. I can see Him, Jesus, I can feel His Holy Spirit and I know that the Father is there.
I will accomplish this by reading through the Word and enjoying every verse that passes through my lips. I will dedicate a sacred time to Him, and I shall be rewarded in immeasurable ways.

Father,
Thank you for giving us the light, Your Son Jesus, who is showing us the way. May I remain close to the light each day and keep warm by your embrace.
